What is sedimentary rocks?

The word 'sedimentary' is derived from the Latin word 'sedimentum' means settling down. Sedimentary rocks are formed by the process of weathering, erosion, transportation, and deposition of seas, rivers, lakes, glaciers and even wind. The sedimentary rocks are porous and permeable. The cementation, compaction and hardening of sedimentary rocks into sedimentary rocks are called as Lithosphere. It is also known as secondary or derived rocks because they are derived by the denudation of other pre existing rocks. Sedimentary rocks are sub divided into three on the basis of nature of sediments, origin, composition and made of formation.
