It is formed by the process of metamorphism of pre existing rocks. Metamorphism means change of forms. During the process the original minerals get altered and new minerals are formed. The minerals arranged in a serious of bank on a metamorphic rock is known as foliation. Example limestone to marble, slate to shale etc. Metamorphic rocks are divided into three thermal metamorphism, dynamic metamorphism and regional metamorphism.
