What is collenchyma?

Collenchyma resemble more or less parenchyma. This cell also retain the capacity of divisions. The cell walls are unevenly thickened and these thickened are confined to the corner of the cell. Cell wall is composed of cellulose and paction. It is found in stem and petiole. The functions of collenchyma is to give mechanical support, helps in photosynthesis if chloroplast is present, and can resist bending and stretching caused by winds.
